  • Emerald is the green variety of the mineral beryl.

  • Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May.

  • Many centuries ago, the Greeks began using colourless oils to improve the appearance of emeralds taken from Egypt. The oil would fill in the natural cracks and fissures within the stone. • Emeralds rate 7.0 to 8.0 on the mohs hardness scale, and require special care when worn as jewellery.
